I JUST ABOUT DIED!!!!!

Long time no wooo, Furiends!

I got some other stuff to woo about, but first I gotta tell you about my near death experience!  This is not like that time I got my collar caught on a tree in the quarry or my head stuck in some ropes and Mom had to save me.  Or that time I thought I was dying cuz I got three porcupine quills in my nose!  This time I really, really almost died!

On July 29th, my sisfur, Pingo, went to the Bridge.  She was super old and it wasn't a big suprise, but we were all still very sad.  I never knew life here without Pingo.  She was here long before me!So Mom wasn't too concerned when I was a bit blah after Pingo died.  We all get a little blah when we lose a friend, right?

Mom had to leave two days after Pingo died.  She was going to a big family reunion in Saskatchewan. I have no idea where that is, but I think it's far away from the Yukon!  So our Uncle Todd moved in and was taking care of us.  He's good at that!  He stays here when the humans go on vacations and stuff!  The very first night he was here, he texted my Mom and said I wasn't feeling well and he was a bit worried.  Mom decided better safe than sorry so she emailed our Dr. Candace and made arrangements for me to go to the clinic in the morning.

Good thing she did that and that Uncle Todd was paying attention to me!  The next morning, I couldn't hardly stand up by myself. My legs kept giving out. I was all wobbly and weak.  I couldn't walk to the van by myself. Uncle Todd had to carry me!  Dr. Candace didn't wait one minute to start helping me!  She put me on fluids and stole my blood and gave me some medicine.  I was one sick puppy.  Dr. Candace said another hour and I would have been a dead puppy!!!

Turns out that I have Addison's disease!  I was in an Addison's crisis!  My kidneys weren't working and my heart was failing.  I was really just about dead!  I had to spend five days at the clinic. I got a bunch of fluids pumped into me, a whole whack of medicine and lots of loving from the staff.  Even sick, I'm pretty loveable!

I'm doing much, much better now.  I'm back to my bouncy, happy self. Mom says she can tell now that I haven't been feeling well for quite awhile, but I never acted really sick and most days I seemed just fine.   Mom even had me checked me out a couple months ago cuz I was losing some weight, but no one was too worried since I still looked ok.   Us critters never like to tell the humans that we are feeling puny!

I will have to take medicine for the rest of my life.  Right now I take six tablets a day!  I'm a good girl though and wolf them right down. Pill Pockets are yummy!  I will also have to see Dr. Candace more often.  I need to get my blood checked regularly to make sure everything is under control.  Mom has to learn to manage my Addison's.  It can't be cured, but it can be controlled!

But Dr. Candace says I can still have a long, happy, active life!  I'm not allowed to go running with Mom yet, but in a couple weeks I will be able to resume my activities!  I'm not supposed to get too stressed.  My body can't make the stuff that helps you deal with stress. I guess that means Mom will have to stay home forever!  Yup, that sounds good to me ! Or take me with her everywhere she goes! :)

Me and Mom are forever grateful to Uncle Todd for getting me to the vet before it was too late to save me!  And to Dr. Candace for knowing just what to do to save my life. Mom just can't imagine losing me yet. I'm not even 7!  I got a lot of adventuring to do yet!

Wooo
Tehya, the recovering babydog!

Your Uncle Todd sounds like an awesome guy! I bet your mom was beside herself since she was away when you were sick, but we are glad you're better.
